I do not think free sample works as the way it used to in the past. These days people try to grab every thing that they get for free but since it is free they do not value it, thus, they do not usually buy it. However, this is just my opinion, and I do not have concrete proof to support my case.
Yes, but you have to evaluate what types of products are possible to give a free sample and which ones are not, but free samples are always essential to attract customers because this way they will try the product and if they like it, they will pay for it because they will know they need it.
