Referral and Posting Contests on Forums

Some forums organize posting and referral contests to build activities and bring in new members. Have you done this? Do you think this is a good method to bring in users and activities? Do you really believe the new users will continue to remain active on your forum?

I have done it 10 years ago (or more, don't know) with a webmaster forum I owned. It did get a flurry of activity and some of those members stuck. It was a pain to manage though, as many were posting junk replies to get the postcount needed. Overall, though, it was a good idea. Might try it in the future here :D

I advice: don't do it.
Well, I have never run posting or referral contest on my forums but I have seen a lot of forums run posting and referral contest. The new members rarely stay on your forums and like you said the posts are junk. Unlike 10 years ago when you did not have ChatGPT, these days, users also use ChatGPT to create posts. It is a lot of work to monitor the activity.

I don't have experience with posting or referral contests personally, but I think they can be effective in boosting activity and attracting new users. These contests create excitement and engagement. However, for long-term success, it’s essential to provide valuable content and a welcoming community to ensure new users remain active.

Yes, it's a good way to boost forum activities with forum's posting contest and referrals. As long as there's a good winning incentives for those participating in the contest, they will turn up.

Referral and posting contests on forums can boost engagement and membership if done right. Offer meaningful rewards, set clear rules, and track entries fairly. Highlight top contributors and keep it fun to build community spirit.

Yes, it is a good strategy to encourage activity in the forum, but of course, you should give some kind of monetary reward for it to have an effect. If not, it will be difficult for users to participate; only a small percentage will participate.

No one is ever going to participate in a posting or referral contest for nothing. If there's no good reward for them at the end of the contest, they won't do it. I personally wouldn't do it either.
