Photoshop V. GiMP

I know photoshop even though I have never used it. While looking for free graphic designing tool, I came across a software called GIMP. It is open source so completely free to use. For starters, do you think it is better to choose Photoshop or do you believe GIMP is as good as photoshop and no need to use Photoshop?

I still have an old Photoshop license, so I cannot comment on the new one. Was never able to make friends with GIMP (or Inkscape for that matter). At the end of the day, it all boils down to what you are comfortable using. If GIMP works for you, then you don't need premium tools, if you need other features, you can try Photoshop.

What ultimately matters is what you want to use it for since photoshop needs money and GIMP is free, anyone can try GIMP to see whether it is the right one or not. If you are a hobbyist designer, paying for Photoshop might not be your thing, right?

I started with Photoshop, had I known about GIMP, I would have never spent money on Photoshop. That's because I am a hobbyist designer and I design only for my personal need, I do not offer design services. If you plan on building your career in graphic design, I think you should be investing in Photoshop
