I am running a forum where I manually approve account. In the past accounts were auto approved, which led to spamming and it was a tedious work to prune these spam accounts. Therefore, these days I manually approve account. While it is not possible to determine whether the newly registered user is spammer or not but you can get a rough idea by looking at the domain they use for email.

I am not okay with manually approval of new accounts. It's very annoying to me. VGR was the last forum which did that to me. I really hated it.
