Is it Really Important to Generate Revenue

It costs a lot of money to manage and run a forum. Apart from domain and hosting, you also need to pay for software subscriptions, addons and themes. How important do you think is it to generate revenue on your forum so that you can maintain the running cost?

It depends on your priorities and also resources. If you can run from pockets and if you don't care about making money, you don't have to use ads.

If you are not making money from your site, I do not think you will be able to build it into a thriving community as you will need to invest heavily to build your forum into a thriving community

I thi k the answer depends on what you want to do with your website, do you want it to be your income source, do you want to run entirely as a philanthropic project, you want to run for a long term, is it your short term project, what else?

As someone who has closed/sold forums before, because I couldn't put in the time anymore (money wasn't such an issue, as I am an SEO and supposed to ear a bit of a buck) .. IT MATTERS a lot. When you have a busy life (becoming a mother was the clicker for me) and your time is crazy limited, you will naturally gravitate towards actions that bring in revenue. And, if the forum is just 'for fun', it has to go

Why not? Money is required to run any project you are planning on especially if you have a big plan. If it is possible to generate revenue from your project, it should be welcome so that the burden of bearing the whole expenses from your pocket will be reduced.

Yes, obviously, I understand that one can do something as a hobby or pastime but generating income is always essential, if we talk about forums, even if it is minimally to pay the monthly value of the host and the domain, as a minimum, unless you want to spend money without anything in return.

There's someone whom I know that runs a couple of forums but never want to monetize any of them. To the best of my knowledge, he currently runs about 5 forums. Although, his social media accounts are monetized and he's earning more from them.

Okay, but then he has a source of income to cover the expenses, he will know why he doesn't want to monetize it, I would monetize all the forums for what I have told you, at least to cover the expenses.

Life is just too busy. However, if running a forum is your passion, then your busy life shouldn't interfere with your passions. There are many forums on the internet that started small and now they have become really popular forums. Perhaps "The Medically" forum could become one of them, as it has the potential to become one of the most popular and greatest forums. The medical niche is a great niche. Having said that, if you remain too busy to manage a forum, then you can hire a moderator who can mange the forum for you.
