I have no success story to share about using Reddit. I have an account on Reddit but I have not used it for many years. However, forums can help you in brand awareness provided you use a forum that is appropriate to your niche and the forum is very active. I really dislike platforms like reddit due to its ridiculous attitude towards it's users. Having said that, there could be other platforms that you could try. There have been many people who could try to boost their following by using local social media networks. This means that you will be mostly getting followers from your own country.

Of course, that also works, but if you want to have local traffic, if you want to have global traffic and on a large scale, you will have to use networks or forums used globally and in the case of Reddit, it is a site which generates a lot, a lot of traffic globally.
