Spam can overwhelm a forum if not properly managed. What are the best ways to prevent spam while still allowing new users to post? Are there specific tools or plugins I should use to detect and remove spam automatically?

Of course there are plugins and add ons to stop spam, and these plugins and add ons are specific to the software you use. However, you should not heavily depend on these addons. One of the best ways to deal with spam is by keeping 20-25 posts under moderation for new users.

You can implement CAPTCHA during registration and posting, manually approve new accounts, and monitor posts from new users. Use email and IP filtering, set posting limits, allow community reporting, and utilize automated spam detection tools to maintain a clean and trustworthy forum environment.

If you can use plugins and add ons to stop spamming in your forum, that's a good option to consider. Also, you can have your mods look out for spammers.

The only way there is, do you know which one? Moderating the forum, either by hiring a moderator or moderating yourself. It depends on your time or patience.

There are various disadvantages of using plugins on forums. Certain plugins can also prevent genuine users from commenting and posting on the forum. Therefore, I never recommend using plugins on the forum. The fact of the matter remains that a person could avail the services of professional moderators who could help them deal with spam posts. The forum owner can also play a big role when it comes to filtering out spam posts. Forum owners could work along with moderators and administrators to raise awareness about posts and members should also co-operate as well.

Very true, you also have to verify that the plugins work correctly with each other, since they can have various errors between them and can make the experience for users really bad and end up moving away from your website or store.
